Pool Fencing
Drowning is the second lead cause of accidental death of pre-schoolers within New Zealand. Toddler drownings most commonly occur in domestic pools, and although fencing is compulsory under the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act 1987, many people believe that existing fencing is safe. However there are still incidents that result from:
- non-compliant fence
- non-compliant gates
- non-compliant (faulty) latching mechanism
- fences were climbable (not high enough)
